Zulfkar urges for preserving State’s historic buildings

Srinagar, MARCH 27: Minister for Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA), Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali today inspected the ongoing renovation work of the main building of the Department at Shaheed Gung here.
During the inspection, the Minister was informed that the renovation work undertaken by J&K Housing Board at an estimated cost of Rs 61 lakh is in full swing and would be completed shortly.
Deputy General Manager J&K Housing Board informed the Minister that so far the coloured roofing and lime putty of the building has almost been completed. Besides, wooden work on skylights and installation of wooden tresses is also nearing its completion.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister directed the concerned to ensure that all the renovation works are carried out in synergy with State’s old architecture. He said the present dispensation is keen on saving its tradition and heritage and the renovation of this historic FCS&CA building is a step in the direction.
The Minister said that efforts should be made to preserve State’s historic buildings as they hold a cultural legacy within their architecture.
Zulfkar Ali directed the concerned to restore the age-old nameplate of the building, which has wooden letters inscribed on it.The building is said to have been built in the 1930s.
Director FCS&CA Kashmir, Nissar Ahmed, Joint Controller, Legal Metrology Department (LMD), Kashmir Amar Singh, Deputy Director FCS&CA Muhammad Aslam, Deputy Controller, LMD, Kashmir Tanveer Ahmed and other concerned officers from FCS&CA and J&K Housing Board were accompanying the Minister.
