Winter preparedness: DC calls for robust mechanism to tackle exigency

SRINAGAR NOVEMBER 07: Deputy Commissioner(DC) Srinagar, Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat Thursday chaired a meeting of Sectoral Officers of various Departments to review the overall winter preparedness in Srinagar District.

At the outset, the Deputy Commissioner directed the officers to plan proactively and develop a strategic approach for snow clearance on both urban and rural roads. He emphasized the deployment of essential machinery and full utilization of resources to ensure prompt road clearance and restoration of connectivity.

The DC also instructed the PDD authorities to maintain a buffer stock of power transformers, wires, and oil at sub-divisional repair workshops to enable timely replacement and repair of damaged transformers. Additionally, he urged PDD Officers to initiate a CCTV installation at workshops and proper communication during repairment of damaged wires.

Similarly, the DC instructed the Officers of the Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Department to ensure adequate stocking of essential items, including ration, LPG, petrol, and diesel, etc in remote areas, and District sales centers to guarantee that supplies are readily available in all locations.

Furthermore, the DC also instructed Officers from Departments of R&B, PDD, PHE, Drainage, Traffic, and RTO to come up with a meticulous and robust plan to combat emergencies during the approaching winter months.

The DC also directed for setting up of a special Control Room in the District to redress the winter-related complaints of the public on a fast-track basis.

The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Syed Ahmad Kataria, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Dr Khalid Hussain Malik;  SP Srinagar, Umer Shah,  Chief Planning Officer, Fayaz Ahmad, Joint Commissioner SMC, SDM East, SDM West and District/Sectoral Officers of various Departments.
