The Sadar Jagraon Police have registered a case against a woman from Moga and her father for allegedly duping her husband of ?28.69 lakh with promises of securing him permanent residency (PR) in Canada.
The accused individuals have been identified as Veerpal Kaur, hailing from Tarkhan Badh in Moga, and her father Baljinder Singh. The complaint was lodged by Harnek Singh Malhi, the father of the victim, Jagdeep Singh, who resides in Kaunke Kalan village.
According to the complaint, Jagdeep married Veerpal through a middleman named Avtar Singh. It was agreed that Veerpal would clear the IELTS exam and initially travel to Canada. Subsequently, she would sponsor Jagdeep on a spouse visa, and the couple would work towards obtaining his Canadian PR. As part of the arrangement, Jagdeep’s family agreed to bear all of Veerpal’s expenses.
Malhi alleged that after spending ?28.69 lakh to send Veerpal to Canada following their marriage, she abruptly stopped answering Jagdeep’s phone calls. The family then reached out to Avtar Singh, who intervened and managed to get Veerpal to finally call Jagdeep to Canada on a spouse visa. However, upon Jagdeep’s arrival, Veerpal began living separately and failed to provide him with the necessary documents for his PR application.
Sub-Inspector Jugraj Singh, in-charge of the Police Post in Kaunke Kalan, confirmed that an FIR (First Information Report) has been filed against the accused under Sections 420 (cheating) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Sadar Jagraon Police Station. Authorities are currently conducting a search operation to apprehend the suspects.
The alleged fraudulent act has shattered the dreams of Jagdeep and his family, who had hoped for a better future in Canada. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of verifying the authenticity of promises made in matters involving immigration and the need for vigilance while dealing with such sensitive matters.
