Nearly four years after the mysterious death of a Kerala-based biker in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer, police have arrested his wife on murder charges. Two people, allegedly the couple’s friends, were held in the case earlier.
Biker Asbak Mon’s wife Sumera Parvez was arrested from Bengaluru on Friday (May 13) with help from the Cyber Cell. She had been absconding. After her arrest, she was presented in court and sent to remand. Police are questioning her in the case.
Asbak Mon, along with his friends Sanjay Kumar, Vishwas and Abdul Sabir, had travelled from Bengaluru to Jaisalmer to participate in a motorsports event. The biker died on August 16, 2018 during a practice run in the desert before the competition, police said, adding he was initially said to have lost his way in the desert and suspected to have died of dehydration.
His wife, too, had not suspected any foul play and the police had closed the case after registering the incident under CrPC provisions.
However, Mon’s mother and brother from Kunnur in Kerala alleged foul play in the biker’s death. The biker’s post mortem stated that he had died of a blow to the neck. Subsequently, police lodged a murder case in December 20 after Jaisalmer Superintendent of Police Ajay Singh found several discrepancies in the incident involving the biker’s death.
A chargesheet under section 299 of the CrPC was presented in court against Sumera Parvez and Abdul Sabir. Several attempts were made to nab the accused, but there was no success until last week, when a special team comprising Cyber Cell experts formed by Jaisalmer SP Bhanwar Singh Nathawat apprehended Parvez.
In a major breakthrough, Mon’s friends Sanjay and Vishwas were arrested from Bengaluru on September 22 last year for allegedly colluding with and executing the biker’s murder in the sandy dunes of Jaisalmer. They are currently lodged in jail.
