War on Corruption: Municipal Committee president caught red-handed accepting bribe in south Kashmir

Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested the Awantipora Municipal Committee president for accepting the bribe.

Identified as Bilal Ahmad Bhat, he had demanded a bribe for  processing the  pending bills

ACB said they received a complaint alleging that Bilal Ahmed Bhat was demanding ₹1000 for processing the bills.  He also alleged that the accused used to demand a five percent commission for processing the bills.

The complainant said he is the owner of an IT firm. He was allotted a tender a year back. The accused was demanding 5% of the total bill amount for renewing the contract.

A case was registered in the ACB police station, Anantnag, and an investigation was taken up.

 “During the investigation, a trap team was constituted. The team caught red-handed Bilal Ahmed Bhat for demanding and accepting a Rs 1000  bribe. He was arrested on the spot. The bribe money was also recovered from his possession in presence of independent witnesses,” ACB said.
