Urmila Matondkar Reportedly Files for Divorce from Her Kashmiri Husband

SRINAGAR: Bollywood actress Urmila Matondkar has reportedly filed for divorce from her husband of eight years, Kashmiri model and businessman Mohsin Akhtar Mir, according to The Hindustan Times.

An anonymous source from a Mumbai court revealed that Urmila has made the decision to end her marriage, although the specific reasons for their separation have not been disclosed. The source stated, “After careful consideration, Urmila has decided to end her marriage with Mohsin. She has already filed for divorce in court. While the cause of the separation remains unknown, the divorce is not happening on mutual terms.”

Urmila and Mohsin wed in a private ceremony on February 4, 2016. Their marriage attracted attention not only for its interfaith nature but also for the ten-year age gap between them. However, nearly a decade later, their relationship appears to have deteriorated.

While Urmila’s public life is well-documented, less is known about her husband, Mohsin. Originally from Kashmir, he moved to Mumbai at the age of 21 to pursue a career in Bollywood. He made his film debut in the 2009 movie It’s A Man’s World and subsequently appeared in Luck By Chance (2009), Mumbai Mast Kallander (2011), and BA Pass (2012). Later, Mohsin shifted his focus to business and is currently associated with designer Manish Malhotra’s label. Interestingly, the couple first met at Malhotra’s niece’s wedding in 2014.

Despite his aspirations in Bollywood, Mohsin admits that his true passion lies in business. He recently ventured into Marathi cinema with his debut film, Madhuri, starring Sonali Kulkarni and directed by Swapna Waghmare Joshi. Speaking to Hindustan Times, he expressed gratitude for Maharashtra, stating, “It gave me my break in modeling and introduced me to the world of films. I have a deep connection with Marathi cinema and feel there is much more to contribute to the industry.”

Regarding Urmila’s influence on his filmmaking journey, Mohsin noted that her insights were invaluable, jokingly mentioning that casting her in Madhuri was not feasible due to budget constraints. “She knows me better than anyone else and trusted me with this project. Her suggestions mattered a lot, but casting Urmila would have blown the budget (laughs).”

Urmila Matondkar has yet to make an official comment on the reported divorce. As one of Bollywood’s beloved actresses, her personal life frequently draws public interest, and this latest development is no exception. The couple, once known for their whirlwind romance and private wedding ceremony, is now reportedly facing legal separation, leaving fans and media eager for further details.

“Over the years, Urmila and Mohsin’s relationship seemed to project an image of happiness, especially through social media, where they often shared glimpses of their personal lives,” another report noted. “On their sixth wedding anniversary, Mohsin posted a heartfelt message on Instagram, thanking Urmila for everything she had done to make their marriage work. The post, filled with love and appreciation, now stands in stark contrast to the news of their divorce.”
