Shopian, Jan 24: Two militants were killed in a gunfight with security forces in Chaigund village of Shopian in south Kashmir on Wednesday, police said.
Director General of Police (DGP) SP Vaid said that two militants have been killed in the gunfight. “In an encounter today at Saigund Shopian, two militants have been neutralised and weapons have been recovered, “DGP Vaid tweeted.
He further said, “Unfortunately one boy was also killed in the cross-fire and two ladies sustained injuries. Search is still going on.”
A joint team of army’s 44 RR, SOG and CRPF laid a siege at Chaigund village in Keegam area following specific inputs about the presence of some militants.
Earlier, a 17-year-old youth was killed and two teenage girls were injured during clashes at Chaigund area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
Javeed Ahmad Bhat, Block Medical Officer PHC Rajpora who operated upon the boy confirmed that he was declared brought dead on arrival.
He identified the deceased as Shakir Ahmad Mir (17) of Qalampora.“Shakir received a bullet wound in his chest and as such succumbed”, Dr Javeed said.
Two teenage girls also sustained injuries in fresh police and paramilitary forces action.
Both the injured girls were shifted to Pulwama district hospital for treatment.
Reyaz Ahmad, a doctor at Pulwama hospital who operated upon them said that both the girls have received bullet wounds and as such were referred to SKIMS Soura for specialized treatment.
He said that the duo had injuries on their head. One of them has least chances of survival.
He identified the duo as Sumiya and Sabreena.
Dr Reyaz further said that hospital has received also pellet injured.(GNS)
