Two militants, soldier killed in Sopore gunfight

Sopore, Oct 26: Two militants and an army soldier were killed in a gunfight in Pazalpora area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Friday morning.

Reports said that two militants were killed in the encounter which broke out in wee hours today after army’s 22 RR, SOG and CRPF 92 BN launched a cordon-and-search operation in Pazalpora area of Sopore.

An army soldier, identified as Brijesh Kumar who was injured earlier in the initial gunfire succumbed at the military hospital at 92 base Badamibagh in Srinagar.

SSP Sopore Javid Iqbal said that the operation was launched following the specific inputs about the presence of some militants in the area.

A police spokesman said that as the search operation was going on, the hiding militants fired upon the search party, which was retaliated leading to an encounter. In the ensuing encounter, two militants were neutralized. The identity of the slain is being ascertained.

“In the initial exchange of fire, one security forces` jawan received serious bullet injuries and was evacuated to hospital for medical attention. However, the injured jawan succumbed at the hospital. He has been identified as Lance Naik Brijesh Kumar of 22 RR,” the spokesman said.

Meanwhile, in wake of the killing of two militants, authorities have snapped internet services in Baramulla and Sopore. and closed all colleges and higher secondary schools in Baramulla, Sopore and Rafiabad for Saturday.
