Srinagar: Two militants have been killed so far in a fierce gunfight between security forces and militants in Ranbirgarh, Panzinara area on the outskirts of Central Kashmir’s Srinagar district.
An official said that two unidentified militants were killed so far in the ongoing encounter.
“The identification of the slain militants was being ascertained,” he said.
Earlier, one army soldier too had received a bullet in his leg during the operation.
The injured soldier, as per officials, has been shifted to 92 Base hospital for further treatment.
Inspector General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar IPS told GNS that two militants were killed in the encounter so far, however, the identity of the militant is yet to be ascertained.
Earlier, a joint team of police and army’s 29RR launched a cordon and search operation in Ranbirgarh on a specific information. As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, triggering off a gunfight.
Reports said that two to three militants could be holed up in the area.
As many as 138 militants have been killed in the valley in 2020 so far. (GNS inputs)
