Two militants killed in Kulgam gunfight

Kulgam: Two militants have been killed in an encounter that broke between militants and the security forces in Zadoora Nipora area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Saturday morning.

Srinagar based Defence spokesman, Colonel Rajesh Kalia confirmed that two militants have been killed. “Joint operation was launched in early hours today on intelligence input. Cordon was laid and contact was established. Two militants have been killed and operation in progress,” he said.

Earlier an official said that a joint team of Police, army’s 19 RR and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation on specific information about the presence of militants in the area.

He said that as the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them which was retaliated triggering an encounter.

Pertinently 14 militants including top Hizb commanders were killed in three separate encounters at Reban Pinjura and Sugoo villages of Shopian district on June 7, 8 and 10 respectively—(KNO)
