SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 24: Dr. Syed Darakhshan Andrabi, Chairperson of the J&K Waqf Board, today laid the foundation for a new grand mosque in the campus of Jenab Sahib Soura in Srinagar. This mosque will be a high-tech construction built to very high standards. The layout of the mosque was finalized by the J&K Waqf Board in consultation with the local community.
Dr. Andrabi later visited Dargah Hazratbal and laid the foundation for a new sanitary complex for females in the campus. She was accompanied by the Tehsildar & Executive Magistrate of the Board, Ishtiyaq Mohiuddin, and Executive Engineer, Tariq Kaloo.
After the foundation-laying ceremony, Dr. Andrabi addressed a gathering of locals at Jenab Sahib Soura and thanked them for their support to the Board in facilitating the construction of the new mosque. “The old mosque here was not safe, and based on the demand of the local people, the new mosque layout was finalized and approved. I am happy that, in the presence of local representatives, we have started the work today,” said Andrabi.
She also emphasized that transparency in the Board has led to continuous infrastructure development at all shrines in the Union Territory for the past two and a half years, all funded through the Board’s finances.
Following the foundation-laying ceremony at Dargah Hazratbal, Dr. Andrabi spoke to the media, stating that the new sanitary complex will be dedicated to females, addressing the shortage of facilities for women at the shrine. She added that both projects will be completed within the stipulated time frame.
Later, she chaired a meeting of the Waqf Board staff to discuss future projects and review the progress of ongoing initiatives. “Transparency in the Board has fetched magical results, evident at the ground,” said Darakhshan Andrabi.
