Srinagar, Jan 13: Owing to various tourism promotional campaigns across India and the timely snowfall, the State’s primer resorts Gulmarg and Patnitop are witnessing almost 100 percent occupancy giving big boost to the local tourism industry.
Secretary Tourism Rigzin Samphel said the tourism department has launched marketing campaign in the regional and national newspapers which is getting good response from the travellers.
“After the instructions from Governor Satya Pal Malik of the State, we have taken massive campaign to promote winter tourism in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh especially Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Patnitop and Bhadarwah. We also carried out promotions on social media and the national and regional news papers on winter tourism in JK,” said secretary tourism.
He said the State is receiving good tourist footfall and Gulmarg and Patnitop are witnessing 100 percent occupancy.“This would be a big boost to the local economy. We are also hopeful that this year’s winter season would be among the best in the last many years,” said Rigzin Samphel.
Secretary Tourism also said governor had emphasized promoting Chadar Trek in Ladakh.
“We are also receiving good number of adventure enthusiasts for adventure tourism in Ladkah and we have been promoting Chadar trek vigorously which receives travellers across the globe,” he said.
The department also conducted autumn and New Year festival which also helped attract travellers to the State.
Notably, the year 2018 saw 45 per cent increase in the foreign tourist arrivals especially from Malaysia, Thailand and Bangladesh.
To further tap the domestic and foreign market, the department is conducting several road shows within and outside the country in the month of January and February. The road shows will be conducting in collaboration with the local associations of travel and hospitality sector. The department is also participating in major travel marts like SATTE 2019 to be held at India Expo Mart, Greater Noida and OTM to be held in Mumbai.
