Srinagar, Dec 31: Director Agriculture Kashmir, Syed Altaf Aijaz Andrabi Monday said that the ensuring availability of quality and affordable seed material to farmers is department’s top priority, as the same will help in increasing the yield of crops year on year basis.
The Director was speaking during a visit to Seed Multiplication Farm, Padgampora. Andrabi said that one of the biggest challenges is ensuring a wider distribution of quality seed. He said the department is working on a roadmap to ensure timely and enough supply of quality seeds to individual small farmers to achieve desirable results.
Director Agriculture impressed upon the officers and the staff of the Seed Multiplication Farm that all the efforts should be made to maximise the production and productivity of the farm, so that more farmers could have access to the quality seeds of different crops at affordable prices.
The Director was briefed by Manager Seed Multiplication Farm Padgampora, Abdul Rashid Allie of various developmental activities and latest technological initiatives taken up to boost the quality seed production at the farm.
It is pertinent to mention that the Seed Multiplication Farm at Padgampora is one of the biggest Farms having 7 thousand kanals of cultivable land and the seeds like Paddy, Maize, and Oilseeds are processed on modern scientific lines.
Besides other officers of the department, Dy. Director Law Enforcement Anil Nargotra, Potato Development Officer Farooq Ahmad Malik accompanied the Director.
