Srinagar, Feb 25: The residents of Tanghdar, Kupwara on Monday asked the district administration to clear snow from the road, connecting them with the district headquarter, at an earliest.
Staging protest at Press Enclave, the protesting residents said that for the last two months they have been confined to their homes.
“Around 75,000 residents have been suffering because of the failure of the government to lift snow. We are not able to visit Kupwara, not able bring goods required at home,” said protesting Abdul Hameed.
“Around 450 residents are stranded in Srinagar and Kupwara. They are really having tough time. Many of them have important engagements at their respective homes. How can they go?” questions Hameed.
The residents said that the closure of road has resulted in losses, worth lakhs of rupees.
“The government should lift the snow at an earliest. The vegetables have gone rancid. There is a dearth of essential commodities in our area,” said Mohammad Khurshid.
They said that if the road was not opened, they would be forced to stage protest at the district headquarter.
“The onus of any eventuality arising out of our protest would come on to the government,” they added.
