Tangdhar encounter: Three more militants killed, soldier succumbs

Srinagar, Sep 24: Three militants and a soldier were killed on Monday in an ongoing gunfight along the Line of Control (LoC) in Tanghdar sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

With the killing of three more militants, the total number of militants died in the operation reached to five.

Two militants were already killed in the operation on Sunday.

Meanwhile, official sources said that a soldier of 4 PARA Commandos namely Lias Naik Sandeep Singh who was injured critically yesterday succumbed to injuries today in army’s 92 base hospital Badamibagh, Srinagar.

They said that today in a fresh gunfight, a soldier of 20 JAT suffered injuries and was taken to military hospital for treatment.

Army’s Srinagar based defence spokesperson in a statement issued here said that three more militants have been killed in the ongoing operation.

“Three more militants have been killed today as the Army foiled an infiltration attempt along the LoC in Tangdhar sector (in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district),” he said.

He said two militants were killed in the gun battle which began yesterday after alert troops noticed suspicious movement near the LoC.

One soldier has been killed in the operation, the spokesman said, adding the operation is in progress. (With inputs from GNS)
