BARAMULLA, AUGUST 24: In an effort to enhance voter engagement and promote environmentally conscious practices, various activities were conducted as part of the SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) initiative today at Government High School (GHS) Deewan Bagh, Baramulla.
The District Election Officer (DEO) Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, led the initiative by actively participating in various activities alongside other officers and new voters.
The event was marked by a series of activities, including a plantation drive and various sports events, all aimed at encouraging voter awareness and participation in the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
The plantation drive, a key highlight of the event, was part of the ‘Green Election’ initiative, reflecting a commitment to democratic participation and also to environmental care, with the DEO along with other participants planting numerous saplings in and around the school premises.
Speaking at the event, Minga Sherpa emphasized the importance of integrating sustainable practices with electoral activities, stating that the Green Election initiative is a testament to our commitment to both democracy and the environment.
In addition to the plantation drive, the initiative included a range of sports events that saw enthusiastic participation from the first-time voters, reinforcing the message of active participation in democratic exercise.
Minga Sherpa further added that the participation of first-time voters is crucial for the future of our democracy and urged the youth of the district to wholeheartedly participate and have their voices heard in the upcoming elections.
