Sustained Efforts for Peace and Stability Opened the Door for Marathon Event: LG Sinha

SRINAGAR, Oct 20: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today said that the Government’s sustained efforts in restoring peace and stability to the region have paved the way for events like Kashmir International Marathon in which international athletes were among 1700 participants.

Sinha highlighted the growing spirit of sportsmanship and the remarkable transformation of  Jammu and Kashmir under the leadership of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi which laid the foundation for organising big events here.
“This successful mega event has put J&K on the world marathon map,” he said.
The LG thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and emphasized how the Government’s sustained efforts in restoring peace and stability to the region have paved the way for such events.


“The way the Prime Minister has been working to bring peace to Jammu and Kashmir is one of the key reasons why a marathon of this magnitude can be held here today,” he said in his address during the award ceremony.
“Prime Minister’s decisive leadership and restoration of peace and normalcy in J&K has ensured people can enjoy international cricket matches, Formula-4 race and feel proud by hosting global events like G20 Summit and International Yoga Day,” Sinha said.


“With its ideal climate, rich cultural heritage, warm hospitality, and scenic beauty, J&K is emerging as a preferred destination for international sporting events. The signature running events at Srinagar and Jammu in future, will bring together runners from across the globe and encourage tourism, he further added.
The LG also lauded the Government’s commitment to infrastructure development in the region, signaling a bright future for Jammu and Kashmir. “With international participation and growing support for sports initiatives, the marathon has further highlighted the region’s journey towards peace and prosperity,” he added.
Sinha also reiterated his pride in being part of this movement, celebrating the spirit of sportsmanship that continues to unite and inspire the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Sinha expressed his gratitude to Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, who conceived the idea of the Srinagar marathon three months ago.


Sinha also thanked the various Government departments for their role in organizing the event, praising the coordination and the vibrant atmosphere of the city.
“The lights of Srinagar shining today are a testament to the city’s growing spirit, and the praise for it is limitless,” Sinha said, adding that a marathon is not just about winning or losing but about participation and community spirit.
The event saw enthusiastic participation, with runners from 12 different countries joining to celebrate the spirit of unity. “This marathon has become a signature event, symbolizing freedom, dedication, and the indomitable spirit of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty said: “I feel blessed to have got the opportunity to be a part of this historic day. With the kind of hospitality and scenic beauty J&K have, I am confident that in the coming days, it will become the number one global spot for international events like Marathons. Efforts will surely be made to bring more films to Jammu Kashmir”.
Atal Dulloo, Chief Secretary; Yasha Mudgal, Commissioner Secretary, Tourism Department; Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir; senior officials, prominent citizens, sportspersons and youth in large numbers were present during the felicitation ceremony.
