Srinagar: It’s exam or vacation time for students in Kashmir. And the Valley-based social media comedians and satirists have shifted gears accordingly.
The funny videos of the Kashmiri comedians these days are focussing on the problems faced by students during exams.
Besides tickling the funny bones of viewers, the videos are also conveying positive messages against social issues like suicides and exam stress among the students.
‘Examination is wartime’
“Jangukh ealan gov (war has been declared),” quips a student enacted by popular Kashmiri comedian Behzaad Malla after coming to know that the examination date sheet has been issued.
Malla’s comic videos of late have dwelt on several problems faced by the students during exams or after the announcement of results. He has also warned students against contemplating suicide in case of poor results.
“Apart from entertaining people, I have always tried to convey a message in my videos regarding the issues facing society from dowry to stress faced by kids during exams. For example, in one video, you can hear a relative boasting how her son got more marks and then how his cousin was taken to task for scoring low marks,” Malla told The Kashmir Monitor.
Word of advice for both students & parents
Malla, who has been making videos for around a year and a half now, said there was a message for both parents and students.
“In my video ‘Dubai ki naukri’, I have conveyed a message that children should not neglect their parents. Also, in other videos, I have advised parents not to pressurize their wards during exams,” he said.
Students need ‘emotional support’ during exams
While Malla makes solo videos, ‘Funny Kashmir’ page has a group of actors that also subtly convey positive messages besides entertaining people.
While they too have made several videos related to students, one recent specific act ‘Cricket Match Te 12th Class Exam’ underscored the need of providing ‘emotional support’ to students during exams.
In the video, a parent is counselled not to put pressure on the kid during exams.
“It is our message that a lot of pressure is put on kids to get 100 marks. But, a child needs emotional support during exams,” one actor can be heard advising a parent in the video.
