Steyn hopes to find place in starting XI for SriLanka Tests

Mumbai:Dale Steyn, the South Africa pacer, has acknowledged that he isn’t guaranteed place in the team anymore, as he sets his sights on Test comeback during the Sri Lanka tour, beginning next month.
The 34-year-old Steyn is two wickets behind South Africa great Shaun Pollock in terms of most number of Test wickets for their country.
Steyn, who was sidelined by an injury during the home Test series against India in January this year, is eyeing Pollock’s record as he prepares to make a return.
However, South Africa have plenty of fast bowling options in Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi and Vernon Philander, combined with the spinners whose services will be required in Sri Lanka.
Steyn knows he’ll have to prove himself as he eyes a place in the national side. “Rabada is so special, Ngidi is coming through nicely, I just hope there’s a spot there for me when we get to Sri Lanka,” Steyn told Sky Sports, according to cricket.com.au.
“In those conditions you’re always looking at possibly playing two spinners. It’s a good headache for the coach to have. But when you get the opportunity to represent your country, you go and make the most of it,” Steyn added.
The veteran fast bowler, however, can rest his worries on the fact that he has an excellent record in Sri Lanka, and the South African team management would not miss out in considering that.
In four Tests, Steyn has grabbed 21 wickets at 24.71 with two five-fors.
Another aspect which may work in favour of Steyn is the fact that Rabada is also making a comeback to the national side having suffered a back stress fracture, due to which he had already missed the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018.
