Srinagar, Sep 28: Expressing his strong reaction and concern over the crackdown on separatists, youth and nocturnal raids by administration in entire Kashmir ahead of the upcoming Municipal and Panchayat election, Chairman Hurriyat Conference (G), Syed Ali Geelani termed the “rhetoric of India being world’s largest democracy as mere hoax.”
He said that by “chocking” the democratic voice of people and their peaceful means of protest and denying their basic rights of the people, authorities are creating a “war like situation and preparing an armed drill for election drama”.
Reiterating the call for boycott of upcoming Municipal and Panchayat election, Syed Ali Geelani in a statement, said that participation in elections, amounts to “betrayal of the sacred blood of martyrs and disrespect and humiliation to the unparalled sacrifices of people in general and youth in particular”.
“We want people to stand united in defeating the designs of the oppressor and completely boycott the elections as they did in 2017, which will have very positive and encouraging effect on the ongoing movement,” Geelani said.
He further said that those who participate in elections and seeking votes from people have an “unending lust of power and wealth, which increases with each passing day”.
“They are nothing, but the worst enemies of our nation as they act as the collaborators of the oppressor just for their personnel gains,” he said.
“Our religious clerks, scholars, intellectuals and civil societies should also shoulder the responsibility to educate the common masses about the implication of voting in these sham elections. Our educated youth and conscious pro-freedom intellectuals have always come forward in the hour of crises and I am sure they will not let us down today as well,” Geelani added.
