SRINAGAR, AUGUST 22: Historian Dr. Abdul Ahad’s book “Shawls and Shawlbafs of Kashmir” was released on Thursday at the Department of Handicraft and Handloom, Kashmir in Srinagar.
Dr. Ahad, having several books to his credit, has written the book Shawls and Shawlbafs of Kashmir after decades of research and relentless efforts.
The book documents the history of shawls, its evolution and travel around continents. It also gives a detailed account of the gut-wrenching episodes that the artisans had to face through centuries.
The book published by South Asia Distributors and Publishers is a treatise on the art of shawl making and the troubling life of its makers. Dr. Ahad is the first Kashmiri author to give a detailed account of the shawl and the shawlbafs.
The book release began with the unravelling of the copies by distinguished panellists and was followed by a quick book reading session. The panellists included former Director Tourism and the current head of the J&L Chapter of INTACH, Dr. Saleem Beigh and noted historian Prof. Farooq Fayaz.
The book contains photographed artworks of the renowned artist Masood Hussain. The cover of the book has been done by the young Kashmiri artist Ishfar Ali.
