Srinagar, Sep 16: A complete shutdown was Sunday observed in Kulgam and Anantnag districts of south Kashmir to mourn the killings of five militants and a civilian in clashes in Chowgam village of Qazigund on Saturday.
An eye witness said shops and other business establishments were closed and traffic was off the roads in Devsar, Kulgam, DH Pora, Yaripora and Qaimoh towns and adjacent villages.
Reports said Qazigund town and adjoining areas too witnessed a complete shutdown.
Mir Bazar, Anantnag town and adjoining areas like Dialgam too observed closure against the killings.
Train services too remained suspended on the second consecutive day for “security reasons” in south Kashmir, however, the service on Srinagar-Baramulla track was on as per schedule, an official from the department said.
Five militants and a civilian – all residents of Kulgam and Anantnag districts – were killed in a gunfight and clashes in Chowgam on Saturday. Nearly two dozen protesters were injured in clashes near the site of the gunfight.
