The Galaxy S8 Lite is official, although, Samsung isn’t calling it that. It’s calling it Galaxy S Light Luxury, and by the looks of it, it’s every bit the Galaxy S8 Lite we had all been expecting it to be. The Galaxy S Light Luxury has the same design as last year’s Galaxy S8, but it comes with toned down specs in line with what you’d normally associate with a Lite version of something. It’s currently available in Burgundy Red and Black Night version will be coming later, Samsung has announced. The one thing that’s sure to disappoint fans and enthusiasts is that the Galaxy S Light Luxury is exclusive to China for now.
In terms of core hardware, the Galaxy S Light Luxury comes with a 5.8-inch Super AMOLED Infinity display with a 1080p+ resolution and an unusual aspect ration of 18.5:9. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor clubbed with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage which is also expandable. On the optics front, the Galaxy S Light Luxury comes with a 16-megapixel rear camera with f/1.7 aperture. On the front, it comes with an 8-megapixel camera.
The Galaxy S Light Luxury is further backed by a 3,000mAh battery and supports both fast and wireless charging. It uses USB Type-C and is also IP68-certified for dust and water resistance.
In terms of design, the Galaxy S Light Luxury boasts of a glass and metal body, and a near bezel-less screen. It comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, an iris scanner and facial recognition for biometric security.
In China, the Samsung Galaxy S Light Luxury has been launched at CNY 4,000 which roughly translates to 42,666 which is in line with what the Galaxy S8 normally costs.
Samsung, is in fact, offering the Galaxy S8 at around a very similar price as the OnePlus 6 in India. The Galaxy S8 still retails for Rs 45,990 — on Samsung’s own website — but you can get it for Rs 37,990 if you buy it from Paytm Mall, under a new cashback offer.
