Srinagar, Mar 26: Scores of Anganwadi workers and helpers on Monday blocked the road outside Srinagar’s Press Enclave to mark a protest against the government for failing to enhance their wages.
The blockade of road by the protesters resulted in traffic mess today during which the vehicles in large number were seen stranded on the road for over half an hour.
Notably, the protest by the Anganwadi workers and helpers continued from past two months.
The protesters carrying banners reading slogans in favour of their demands were chanting slogans against the government for failing to fulfill their demands.
The protesters were not allowing any vehicle to pass through the road, causing huge traffic mess in the area.
The protesting workers and helpers said that they have blocked the road today to protest against the failure of the government. “We are being forced to take streets against the government, which also cause hardships to the commuters travelling on the road,” the protesters said.
They urged the government to look into the matter and fulfill their demands. They also said that they will continue their protest until the government fulfill their demands.
The Anganwadi protesters said that the government is ignoring their plights. “We are serving the department on meager amount. Authorities must fulfill our demands so that our families could heave a sigh of relief,” they said. (KNS)
