Reasi terror attack:: LG chairs security meeting, vows to bring terrorists to book

Jammu:  Lieutenant  Governor Manoj Sinha today vowed to bring the terrorists behind the Reasi bus attack to book.

Against the backdrop of the attack, the Lieutenant Governor chaired a high-level security review meeting with the officials of J&K Police and Civil Administration, at Police Headquarters, Jammu.

The Lieutenant Governor posted on X: “Chaired a security review meeting with the officials of J&K Police and Civil Administration. I assure the people that those behind the attack on pilgrims in Reasi and those aiding and abetting them will be punished”.

Earlier Sinha said the terrorist attack on a bus in Reasi district was part of a nefarious design to spread turmoil in the Jammu region, and asserted that such an attempt would be thwarted.

Terrorists opened fire at the bus carrying pilgrims in Reasi district on Sunday, killing nine and injuring 41 others.

The 53-seater bus, on its way from the Shiv Khori temple to Katra, veered off the road following the barrage of gunfire and fell into a deep gorge near the Teryath village of Poni area.

“An unfortunate incident happened yesterday evening when terrorists targeted the driver of a bus as a result of which he lost control and the vehicle plunged into a gorge resulting in the death of nine persons. A joint operation by police, CRPF, and Army is underway to punish those responsible for the incident,” the Lt Governor told reporters at the Government Medical College here after meeting 18 of the injured admitted to the facility.

He said Director General of Police R R Swain along with his team is on the spot supervising the anti-terror operation.

Earlier, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha met the pilgrims injured who are undergoing treatment at Government Medical College, Jammu, and   Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Katra.

Lieutenant Governor posted on X: “Met the injured pilgrims at Government Medical College, Jammu & Narayana Hospital, Katra and wished them a speedy recovery. The entire nation stands firmly with the families of martyred pilgrims in this hour of grief”.

The team of doctors briefed the Lt Governor on the health condition of the injured and the medical facilities being extended to them.      

The Lt Governor is closely monitoring the situation. He has directed the District and Hospital Administration to ensure the best possible medical care and all necessary assistance to the affected families.

Sinha also approved an ex-gratia of Rs.10 lakh each for the next of kin of pilgrims martyred in the Reasi terror attack. He has also approved Rs. 50,000 each for those injured.

The injured are being treated at different hospitals. The district administration has created a control room to provide all necessary assistance. A joint security force temporary HQ by J&K Police, Army, and CRPF has been set up at the site and an operation is in progress to neutralize the perpetrators of the Reasi terror attack.
