Rasheed detained as police foil AIP march to UN office

Srinagar, Dec 16:Police in Srinagar on Sunday detained former legislator Er Rasheed along with his supporters after they tried to march towards the UN office at Sonwar as a mark of protest against killings in Kashmir.

A party spokesman said the protesters carrying banners, placards and black flags took out a march from Rajbagh.

“However, a large contingent of police stopped the procession near Zero Bridge and took Er. Rasheed and other party activists in custody and lodged them in police station Ragbagh,” said the spokesman.

The protesters who were chanting slogans against the forces sought the implementation of UN resolutions to end bloodshed in Kashmir.

Before his arrest,Er. Rasheed while talking to the media condemned the killings and said that world community should take notice of massacres taking place in Kashmir.

“It is obvious that New Delhi has no resolution to Kashmir dispute except pellets, bullets, massacres, draconian laws and state terrorism,” said Rasheed.

Governor Satpal Malik, State DGP and Army Chief must own the moral responsibility of the killings rather making fake enquires and condemnations, he said.

He alleged that New Delhi doesn’t want a political resolution nor does it give space to peaceful protests and resistance.

Rasheed also condemned Army Chief Bipin Rawat’s statement “trying to justify the killings”.

He reminded Bipin Rawat and ADG law and order that J&K dispute is not about “controlling mobs without giving political resolution to the seventy yearlong pending dispute.”

“Calling stone palters as terrorists means simply encouraging men in uniform to do what they want,” said Rasheed.

Er. Rasheed said that since “Army is directly involved in the Pulwama massacre, party will hold a peaceful day long sit-in outside Army Headquarters Badami Bagh tomorrow against the complete lawlessness and misuse of dirty AFSPA.”
