Srinagar, Sep 5: Expressing shock and grief over the tragic and gruesome murder and rape of minor girl in Trikanjan, Uri area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, Hurriyat (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Wednesday demanded exemplary punishment to the guilty involved in the heinous crime.
In a statement, Mirwaiz said that every citizen is shocked and outraged by this barbaric incident in once a simple and humane Kashmir.
He said the Uri incident has come at a time when entire state of Jammu and Kashmir is grappling with the brutal rape and murder of nomadic Asifa of Kathua. Mirwaiz said that those guilty in Asifa’s rape and murder are yet to be punished and the gruesome incident of Uri has left people of Kashmir once again shaken.
Mirwaiz said the shocking incidents like Uri in a place known for upholding religious and social values has left a big question mark as to which direction Kashmiri society is going.
He said the way the girl was murdered and physically assaulted is a major concern for every citizen of Kashmir and it’s the responsibility of every Kashmiri to take note of such incidents which are a wakeup call about the rising crimes in the valley
Mirwaiz also demanded immediate release of Sarjan Barkati who was arrested during the people’s uprising of 2016 stating that he is being deprived of all the basic facilities guaranteed in the jail manual which is taking toll on his health.
He said that slapping frequent PSAs on Sarjan is nothing but sheer political revenge as the court has already ordered his release but he continues to be booked under one or the other fictitious charge.
Mirwaiz expressed serious concern over the prevailing situation in South Kashmir, people of entire southern Kashmir have been left on the mercy of forces as everyday CASOs are launched to instill fear and to break the resolve of people there.
He said keeping hundreds of people caged, asking elders to move out of houses, killing those who raise voice against unwarranted search operations, vandalising property is nothing but a blatant human rights violation.
