Srinagar:  Experts have asked fitness enthusiasts to take extra caution during workouts in Ramadan.

From light workouts to consuming hydrating foods, fitness have come up with dos and don’ts for people during fasting.

They advised gym freaks to modify their exercise routines to achieve fitness goals during the holy month of Ramadan.

They essentially suggested that gym-goers should primarily avoid excessive strain while fasting. “Intense workouts should be avoided while fasting. The body is in a state of low energy because of low glucose levels. Straining the body while fasting can,” said Ovais Ahmad Dar, a fitness expert.

They recommend avoiding intense workouts, especially during the hottest part of the day, to prevent dehydration and fatigue.

“It is recommended to start workouts in late hours of the day just before breaking the fast. Workout after breaking fast is equally suggested, but one should avoid going to the gym during the mid-day as glucose level is down and can affect ones fast,” he said.

Experts also suggest that fitness freaks focus on low-impact activities such as walking, stretching, or light resistance training instead of high-intensity exercises. “Workout with light weights with maximum repetition is recommended. These who are into athleticism and weight loss spree can go for stretching, brisk walking, and low resistance training,” said Fardeem Hussain, another fitness trainer.

He emphasized the importance of proper nutrition, advising people to consume carbohydrates and healthy fats during Suhoor and Iftar to maintain energy levels throughout the day. “One should drink enough water during predawn and dinner meals. It is also recommended to include carbs and healthy fats in your diet to feel energetic throughout the day and avoid disruption in the fitness regime,” Hussain said.

Hydration is another key factor, with fitness gurus urging individuals to drink plenty of water and consume hydrating fruits like watermelon, oranges, and cucumbers to prevent dehydration.

By following these guidelines, those observing Ramadan can maintain their fitness levels while prioritizing their health and well-being.
