Rain and thundershowers ease the Kashmir heatwave

SRINAGAR: Amid an intense heat wave, the Meteorological Centre Srinagar has forecasted rain and thundershowers across various parts of the Kashmir division within the next three hours. This forecast brings relief to residents enduring high temperatures.

A Met official reported, “Generally cloudy conditions with rain and thundershowers are expected over many areas in the Kashmir Division, including Gulmarg, Tangmarg, Baramulla, Doodh Pathri, Khan Sahab, and nearby regions of Budgam. Parts of south Kashmir, such as Pulwama, Shopian, Qazigund, Anantnag, and surrounding areas, along with some parts of Srinagar and Ganderbal districts, will also experience these conditions.”

The official noted that some locations in the Kashmir division might see brief periods of intense showers. This weather change is anticipated to offer much-needed relief from the soaring temperatures.

Looking ahead, the weather for July 29 is expected to be generally cloudy with intermittent light to moderate rain or thundershowers affecting many areas in the Kashmir Division and most parts of the Jammu Division.

From July 30 to 31, the region will continue to experience cloudy weather with intermittent light to moderate rain or thundershowers in many locations in Kashmir and widespread areas in Jammu.

The forecast for August 1 to 7 predicts continued cloudiness with intermittent light to moderate rain or thundershowers in the Kashmir Division and most locations in the Jammu Division. However, brief intense showers may lead to flash floods, cloudbursts, landslides, and mudslides in vulnerable areas.

The MeT department has also warned of possible heavy rainfall in some parts of the Jammu Division, increasing the risk of natural calamities.

Residents are advised to stay informed about the latest weather updates and take precautions, particularly in areas susceptible to flash floods and landslides.
