Rafiabad residents protest against erratic power, water supply

Rafiabad, Jan 10: The people from Watergam and its adjoining villages on Wednesday held protest demonstration and blocked Baramulla-Handwara National Highway road to mark their protest against PDD and PHE departments.
Raising slogans against the PDD and PHE, the protesters alleged that despite repeated requests and reminders, the concerned departments have failed to address the water and power issues. They said that they are facing immense hardships without electricity and drinking water in the area.
“Government has cheated people as it did not prepare any winter action plan for the betterment of people especially in villages,” the residents said.
They said during winters, people face tremendous problems.
Protestors while hitting out at the government, said that the government has always failed the citizens by its non-performance and non-planning facilities especially in the winter season .
Officials in Public Health Engineering Rafiabad division told The Kashmir Monitor that they can understand that people are facing water scarcity in the area.
“Our efforts are on to restore the freezing water lines as soon as possible. Our services for providing water tankers in all areas of belt is also on,” they said.
They added that people should cooperate till the time we will restore regular water supply in the belt.
Meanwhile, officials in PDD were not able for comments despite repeated attempts.
