NEW DELHI, FEB 17: Dr. Kavita Suri, Professor, Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu today conducted a workshop on “Gender sensitization : Understanding Gender” at University of Delhi here today. The workshop was organised by Department of Adult, Continuing Education and Extension, University of Delhi.
Prominent among others present in the workshop included Prof. N. K Chadha, former Head, Department of Adult, Continuing Education and Extension, Delhi University, Prof Rajesh, Head, DACEE, DU, Prof V K Dixit faculty member, research scholars and students.
Prof. Suri, while speaking in her highly interactive session, explained the concept of gender sensitization in a very effective and lucid way with the help of videos and exercises. She interacted with the audience very effectively and conducted a brainstorming session to clarify the doubts as well as performed activities to inculcate gender-neutral thinking among the students.
She said that gender sensitization is an act of sensitization and encouragement of behavior modification through raising awareness of gender equality concerns. “There is an urgent need to create awareness amongst the students as well as professionals about the importance of gender sensitivity in an organization. It helps in better understanding the opposite gender in a better way,” Prof Suri added who has also worked as member, Jammu and Kashmir State Commission for the Protection of Women and Child Rights, J&K govt.
While interacting with the students, she said that gender sensitization is the need of the hour and we all must start it from our homes. She discussed in detail the concept of sex, gender and gender sensitization. Student participants expressed their views on the theme and interacted with the expert asking several questions.
Prof. N. K. chadha who has also headed Department of Psychology at DU, moderated the workshop.He stressed upon the need of gender sensitization workshops and conngratuled Prof. Suri for conducting the workshop on a very relevant issue. Earlier, Prof Rajesh, Head DACEE welcomed the speaker.
