Srinagar June 5: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with the Union Council of Ministers, formally tendered his resignation after calling on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Wednesday.

President of India in a post on X said, “Prime Minister @narendramodi called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The Prime Minister tendered his resignation along with the Union Council of Ministers.”

“The President accepted the resignation and requested the Prime Minister and the Union Council of Ministers to continue in office till the new Government is formed,” the post added.

The resignation was tendered by PM Modi amid speculations of him likely taking oath as the premier of India on the 8th of June.

With the development, it will bring down the curtain to the 17th Lok Sabha, which was in session from 2019 to 2024.

After the Election Commission of India announced the Lok Sabha election’s result yesterday, the BJP fell short of the majority mark of 272 seats for the time since 2014 as the saffron party bagged only 240 seats in the parliamentary election 2024.
