Srinagar, Jan 12: The residents of Ranga Mohalla, Hawal on Saturday appealed Power Development Department (PDD) to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to their area.

The residents said that they have been suffering because of the unscheduled power cuts.“There is no proper timing. The PDD has been resorting to random power cuts. It is difficult to manage things without electricity in harsh winters,” said Latief Ahmad Misgar, president masjid committee, Ranga mohalla, Hawal.

“We apprised the PPD authorities several times but despite assurances, nothing happened. We are still facing frequent power cuts,”Misgar added.

The residents said that they have been asking the PPD to install an additional transformer of 250KW from a long time.“So far, it has not been provided. The present one is of low capacity. There are around two hundred households here,” the residents added.

They claimed that PDD was not doing anything to repair the damaged wires.
“Recently, some of the wires were repaired but still the wires at many places need to be fixed. They have been posing severe threat to the population,” said Shahid Ahmad.

“PDD needs to resolve our issues at an earliest, if they failed we would hit the streets to lodge our protest,” the residents said.

“The onus of any eventuality arising out of our protests would come on to the government. We have waited a lot, we all have been suffering especially the students, who find it difficult to study in the absence of electricity,” the residents added.

Chief Engineer (CE), PDD Qazi Hashmat said that as such everything is normal there at Hawal.“The electricity is provided as per schedule. We recently changed the conductors. Technically, we cannot provide additional transformer,” he said.
