PCB decides not to take action against Hafeez

LAHORE: Accepting the explanation of Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez in his criticism to the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) protocols in the biomechanic procedure of testing the suspect bowling action of a bowler, the three-member disciplinary committee of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) decided not to take any action against the cricketer.

Hafeez, who has been cleared last month by the ICC to bowl after being called for the third time for his suspect bowling action, had expressed reservations over the rules of the ICC set for the biomechanics test.

The PCB sent a notice to Hafeez on May 19, to appear before the three-member committee on Tuesday (June 5) to clear his position.

The committee comprised of director cricket operations Haroon Rasheed, director media Amjad Hussain and GM Legal Salman Naseer.

“Mr.Hafeez clarified his recent comments about ICC protocols on bowling action. The committee accepted Mr.Hafeez’s explanation and asked him to clarify his comments to the media,” a PCB press release stated.

Meanwhile, Hafeez in his statement said:”My intention was not to criticise ICC protocols nor did I mention any respected cricket board in my interview. The interview was all about my suggestions to improve the [bowling action tests] standards and to remove doubts if any from minds of the fans of cricket. Unfortunately my comments were misinterpreted and used out of context.”

The committee disposed off the case with no further action would be taken on the matter.
