Srinagar: One militant has been killed in the ongoing encounter at Beighpora Awantipora in which a top Hizb commander is believed to among those trapped.
“#BeighporaEncounterUpdate: So far 01 unidentified #terrorist killed. Operation going on. Further details shall follow,” J&K police updated on Twitter.
Earlier the police said that a top militant commander was among those trapped in Beighpora.
“Contact established in #Beighpora #Awantipur. Top terrorist commander is trapped. Exchange of fire on. Details shall follow,” police said in the tweet.
Sources said that in Beighpora encounter, a joint team of 55 RR, CRPF and Awantipora Police launched cordon and search operation in the area.
Unconfirmed reports say Hizb’s Riyaz Naikoo could be the trapped militant, however, the same could not be independently verified.
Police, in fact, asked news channels to desist from “speculative reporting.”
“Operation at Beigpora Awantipur is going on. Any Speculative reporting unconfirmed stuff having law and order bearings is highly irresponsible on the part of some channels. They are advised to hold their guns please,” the J&K police tweeted.
The authorities have suspended mobile internet services across Kashmir as a precautionary measure, they said. A cordon and search operation had begun last night after security forces were tipped off about the presence of militants in Beighpora area.
