NSSO-FOD, Regional Office to celebrate ‘Swachhata Pakhwada’

SRINAGAR: To accelerate efforts to achieve universal sanitation coverage and to focus on sanitation, the Prime Minister of India launched the Swachh Bharat Mission on 2nd October 2014. “Swachhata” means cleanliness, and “Pakhwada” means a duration of 15 days; thus, it is an initiative of 15 days of various activities for the Swachh Bharat Mission.

The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (Govt. of India) decided that “Swachhata Pakhwada 2024” would be celebrated by all offices of MoSPI during 16th June to 30th June 2024. Designed with the theme of “Waste to Wealth” as its driving philosophy, Swachh Survekshan 2024 is curated towards achieving circularity in waste management. 

A day-wise activity has been assigned to all Zonal/Regional Offices across the country, under which NSSO, FOD Regional Office Srinagar was tasked with organizing a door-to-door awareness campaign in the form of a rally at a public place to educate people about the harmful effects of using plastic/polythene bags in daily life and the benefits of hygiene and sanitation.

The Regional Office NSSO (FOD) Srinagar conducted a rally in the Barzulla bund area on 20th June 2024. There were about 35 participants, headed by Incharge Shri Arif Iqbal Bhat, Sr. Statistical Officer, and two Senior Statistical Officers of NSSO-FOD Regional Office Srinagar. During the campaign, the participants educated the residents of the area about the hazards of using polythene and the importance of maintaining personal hygiene and sanitation in daily life. They also raised awareness about the current surveys of MoSPI and distributed pamphlets related to these surveys. The residents responded positively to the campaign.
