NIA summon to Mirwaiz assault on religious identity: Mehbooba

Srinagar, Mar 10: Former Chief Minister of J&K and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti Sunday termed the NIA summons to Mirwaiz an “assault on religious identity”.

Mehbooba Mufti in a tweet said that Mirwaiz Umar Farooq is not any ordinary separatist leader but a religious and spiritual head to the Muslims of Kashmir.

“Mirwaiz isn’t any ordinary separatist leader. He is religious and spiritual head to Kashmir Muslims. NIA summons to him are emblematic of GoI’s repeated assaults on our religious identity. J&K is the proverbial sacrificial lamb exploited to divert attention from the real issues,” Mehbooba tweeted.

Earlier on Saturday, NIA summoned Hurriyat (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and son of Hurriyat (M) Chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Naseem Geelani to their Delhi headquarters for questioning in 2017 funding case.

This is the first time top Hurriyat leader has been summoned to the NIA”s Delhi head office for questioning while as Naseem has been summoned twice earlier.
