Srinagar, Apr 5: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has issued a third notice to Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in an alleged militant funding case asking him to produce himself before the agency on April 8 on the pretext of providing him adequate security cover in New Delhi.
The notice says that Mirwaiz’s security concerns in New Delhi will be taken care of. Mirwaiz has refused to travel to Delhi on earlier two occasions, citing security threat.
Meanwhile, the authorities Friday implemented restrictions in the old-city areas and barred offereing of Friday prayers in the historic Jamia Masjid.
“Strongly denounce lock down of Jama Masjid and imposition of restrictions in downtown Srinagar as today being Friday following Mehraj special dua majlis was to be held. It’s unacceptable that every other Friday, Jamia is forcibly locked, prayers barred and I am put under house arrest,” Mirwaiz tweeted.
In a recent Friday sermon, Mirwaiz had said that New Delhi cannot intimidate Kashmiri by issuing summons.
The chief cleric of Kashmir also added that Kashmiri will continue to seek peaceful resolution of Kashmir dispute.
Mirwaiz had earlier been summoned by the National Investigation Agency recently. However, he added that he won’t go to New Delhi but give a written reply to the NIA.
In his written reply according to his legal counsel ‘it was unwise for his client to travel to Delhi under the prevailing conditions of hostility wherein there is a threat to the personal safety of my client.’
Earlier, Hurriyat (G) Chairman Syed Ali Geelani said that if NIA wants to question anyone, they can do it in the valley itself.
