Srinagar : NHAI officials in India worked throughout the night to construct an alternative bypass at Chabba Seri in order to restore traffic on National Highway-44. Simultaneously, efforts were underway to repair a section of the road that had been damaged by heavy rainfall.
The Deputy Commissioner of Ramban stated, “The NHAI is currently working on constructing an emergency bypass at Seri, Ramban, to restore traffic on National Highway-44.”
Meanwhile, local resident Mohammed Jahangir reported to news agency ANI that the roads in the area had been washed away due to the heavy downpours. He expressed the difficulties faced by the people, including the need to cover long distances on foot. Jahangir mentioned that they had to walk around 1-2 kilometers in Makarkot and were now faced with an additional 3-4 kilometers on foot after reaching Ramban.
For the third consecutive day on Monday, the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained closed to vehicular traffic due to multiple landslides. Officials also emphasized that efforts were being made to restore the only all-weather road connecting Kashmir with the rest of the country.
The closure of this 270-kilometer-long highway since Saturday has resulted in thousands of vehicles being stranded.
