Mumbai :Rajesh Natarajan of Mumbai will represent the country in the World Finals of the MercedesTrophy 2018 scheduled to be held in Stuttgart, Germany in October this year.
He will be joined by other golfers like Bhavkaran Singh of Chandigarh and Aman Sawhney of Gurugram.
Playing at the national finals of the 18th India edition of the tournament at Pune’s Oxford Golf Resort, Rajesh playing in CAT C (18-24) scored 44 points to qualify for the event. Bhavkaran in handicap CAT A (1-9) won with a score of 41 points in his category. Aman carded a score of 35 points in CAT B (10-17) to book his spot.
Bhavkaran made the trip to Pune after becoming one of six National Final qualifiers from the Chandigarh leg of the tournament, which was played at the Panchkula Golf Club earlier this year. Aman qualified from Gurugram’s Classic Golf and Country resort while Rajesh made it from BPGC in Mumbai.
A total of 45 qualifiers and one wild card entry from across 12 cities participated in the National Finals of the largest amateur golf tournament in India.
Golfer, Rohit Mittal from Chandigarh won the Straightest Drive Grand Lucky and will travel to the British Open Championship in July and will get a chance to play at the Royal Birkdale Championship course the day following the premiere Golfing Major, as a guest of Mercedes- Benz India.
The runners up trophies for each category were won by – Aman Taragi (CAT A) from Mumbai with a total score of 39 points, Dinesh Gogna (CAT B) from Chandigarh and Akram Mehdi (CAT C) from Hyderabad with identical scores of 35 points.
The format of play for the National Finals was Modified Stableford against 3/4th handicap.
