Prime Minister Narendra Modi kicked-off Bharatiya Janata Party’s electoral campaign in Meerut by slamming the Opposition on all fronts. He especially stressed on the Opposition’s demand to furnish proof of surgical strikes and suggested that the demand was unnecessary and appeared to bring forth Opposition’s distrust of Indian armed forces

“Mere jawan hi mera saboot hai”, said PM Modi as he addressed the crowd.

Indian Air Force carried out airstrikes across the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir.

In the immediate aftermath of the attack, the government said that the attack was aimed at Jaish-e-Mohammed camp in Pakistan administered Kashmir (PaK) and that a large number of militants were killed in the airstrike. Confusion persisted over the exact number of killed
militants . Several media reports including some by international news agencies and mediahouses claimed that there was no t
militant camp at the site where IAF carried out airstrike.

In such a context, the Opposition, especially leaders of the Congress raised questions on the airstrikes and demanded a proof of airstrikes.

The demand met with severe criticism from the BJP camp. Several BJP leaders said that demanding proof of the airstrikes amounted to not trusting armed forces of the country.

On Thursday, PM Narendra Modi’s schedule involved ralies in Meerut (UP), Rudrapur (Uttarakhand) and Jammu (Jammu and Kashmir).
