Most of 271 graft cases registered since 2015 still uninvestigated

Srinagar, July 17: Vigilance Organisation (VO) has registered 271 FIRs against government officials in the last three years, but not many have been settled as yet.
In Kashmir division, the organisation has registered 135 FIRs since 2015—55 in 2015, 23 in 2016, 33 in 2017, and 24 this year so far.
In Jammu, the organisation has registered 136 FIRs against government officials, including 43 in 2015, 31 in 2016, 46 in 2017, and 16 in 2018.
As per documents, the FIRs were registered on charges of making illegal appointments, misuse of official position, illegal transfer of land, demand or acceptance of bribe, misappropriation of funds, irregularities issuing arms’ licenses, and possession of disproportionate assets.
However, most of these cases are still under investigation, not having progressed beyond registering on the papers.
The Centre for Media Studies (CMS) in its annual corruption study–CMS India Corruption Study 2017—has placed Jammu and Kashmir among the 20 most corrupt states in India.
