Pulwama, July 16: Militants on Monday attacked the residence of NC leader in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district and killed one of the security guards present there while as injuring the other, police said.
A police official said that militants attacked the house of NC leader Ghulam Mohiuddin at Muran in Pulwama district.
Two PSOs present in the house, were critically injured in the militant attack, who were hospitalized.
However, one among them succumbed immediately. He has been identified as Mudassir Ahmad.
Another injured constable Nasir Ahmad referred to Srinagar hospital for specialised treatment, reports said.
The militants, according to reports, decamped with the service rifles from the possession of the two cops.
SSP Pulwama Mohd Aslam Choudhary also confirmed the attack and death of the constable Mudassir Ahmad.
He also confirmed snatching of two weapons from the slain policemen.
The entire area was cordoned off and a hunt launched to nab the assailants, he said.
Later, a police spokesperson said that militants fired indiscriminately at the cops in Muran village at District Pulwama who were accompanying ex-MLA Rajpora Ghulam Mohiuddin.
“The protected person is safe and secure however one of his PSOs, Mudassir, who was from district Police, has been killed, while the other PSO Nasir from security wing is stable. Apparently militants after the firing incident have snatched the weapons of the policemen,” the spokesman said.
“Police has registered the case and investigation into the instant matter has been initiated. Based on the initial probe it is learned that Zahoor Thokar group of proscribed HM militant outfit is involved in it,” the spokesman said.
Three Jaish militants arrested in Baramulla: Police
Srinagar, July 16: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday claimed busting a Jaish-e-Muhammad module by arresting three “hardcore active members” of the organization during checking in Haritar and Yarbugh area of Rafiabad in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
“Acting on a credible input, a joint team of forces laid a naka at Haritar area on Monday. During checking, a suspicious person was apprehended and during preliminary questioning, he revealed his identity as Bilal Ahmad Kaloo son of Ab Rehman Kaloo resident of Takiabal Sopore,” said a police spokesman.
“He is an active member of JeM. Two grenades, a matrix sheet of JeM outfit were recovered from his possession. In this regard a case FIR number 65/2018 under section 7/25 A. Act, 13 ULA Act, has been registered in Police Station Tarzoo and investigation has been taken up,” the spokesman said.
He added that two more active members of JeM outfit were apprehended by Sopore Police with the assistance of security forces during naka checking at Yarbugh Rafiabad.
“They were identified as Asif Sheikh son of Ghulam Qadir Sheikh and Abdul Majeed Mir son of Ghulam Ahmad Mir, both residents of Yarbugh Rafiabad,” he said.
“A hand grenade, four rounds of AK47 and two Matrix sheets of JeM outfit were recovered from their possession. A case FIR number 92/2018 under section 7/25 A. Act, 13 ULA Act has been registered in Police Station Dangiwacha and investigation has been taken up,” the spokesman added.
Militant killed, 2 soldiers injured in Kupwara
Srinagar, July 16: An unidentified militant was killed and two army soldiers injured in an ongoing gunfight near Safawali Gali along the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Monday.
Quoting an army officer based in north Kashmir, GNS news agency reported that the gunfight broke out near Safawali Gali adjacent to Batpora forests after a joint search party of 10 JAKLI, 57 RR and 41 RR challenged the movement of a group of infiltrators before dawn on Monday.
Police sources said that a militant was killed during the operation, however, his body could not be retrieved so far due to the apprehensions of firing from the other part of Kashmir.
They said that two soldiers namely Riflemen Adil Hussain and Tawseef Ahmad of 10 JAKLI have received injuries and have been evacuated to military hospital for treatment. “The condition of both the soldiers are stated to be stable”.
