Hackers compromised Egypt’s Beheira province education directorate’s Facebook page and demanded that Lebanese-American former adult film actress Mia Khalifa be made an education advisor.
Egyptian newspaper Al-Masry Al-Youm reported that unidentified hackers compromised the Beheira province education directorate’s Facebook page to press for their demand.
“We demand Minister of Education Dr. Reda Hegazy appoint Dr. Mia Khalifa as an advisor for educational development,” the newspaper quoting hackers said.
While Khalifa has a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Texas according to the media information site IMDb, she is not known to have received a doctorate.
Media reports said Hegazy was promoted to education minister from deputy education minister for teachers’ affairs on Saturday in a cabinet reshuffle in Egypt.
After regaining control of its page, the Beheira education directorate on Sunday published an “urgent notice” from its public relations and media department.
“The media page of the directorate was hacked by an unknown party, and legal measures have been taken in this regard,” it said.
“A report has been made to the competent security authorities.”
The media department apologized to those following the page, issuing a warning against adding “any accounts impersonating the names of educational leaders”.
But the directorate’s Facebook statement previously used an incorrect spelling of the word “apology” in Arabic, getting one of the letters wrong.
“If you weren’t the education directorate, how would you have written it?!” one user asked in response.
