Mental health awareness prog held at GDC G’bal

GANDERBAL: The Department of Psychology in collaboration with the Drug De-Addiction Committee and Psychological Counselling Cell of the college organised Mental health awareness program on June 12 2024. The resource persons for the program were Dr. Mohammad Muzaffar Khan, Consultant Clinical Psychologist & Director Police Drug De-Addiction Centre and Leena Mir, Counselling Psychologist.

The program was moderated by Ifza Binti Nazir, a 2nd semester student of BA Psychology. Dr. Ulfat Jaan, Head Department of Psychology introduced the program as an initiative to create awareness about mental health. It was followed by felicitation of guests and Principal’s address. Prof. Fouzia Fatima, Principal GDC Ganderbal stressed upon the need and importance of conducting such programs for mental wellbeing of the students. 

Leena Mir discussed mental health spectrum, common disorders, early signs and symptoms. She also deliberated upon the remedial measures in case of mental health issues. 

Dr. Mohammad Muzaffar Khan while discussing various mental health issues with special focus on drug addiction highlighted the importance of parental engagement with the children. He also discussed the role of educational institutions and teachers in reaching out to students and address their issues. Dr. Shaheena Akhtar, Head Department of Education presented the vote of thanks.
