Mehbooba, Omar owns assets worth ‘Rs 65 lakh or less’

Srinagar, Feb 13: Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and former chief minister Omar Abdullah have claimed that they own properties less than Rs 65 lakh.
The Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and National Election Watch (NEW) released their report on Monday, which says that Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has declared her assets of Rs 56 lakh.
Mehbooba has declared that she has Rs 10,96,854 movable assets and Rs 45,00,000 immovable assets. She took oath in April 2016 following the death of her father. Mehbooba is also the President of the ruling PDP in the state.
As per the report, out of the all 31 chief ministers analysed from state assemblies and union territories, 11 (35 percent) chief ministers including Mehbooba have declared “criminal cases” against themselves.
At least 26 per cent CMs have declared serious criminal cases, including related to murder, attempt to murder, cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property, criminal intimidation, among others.
However, JK Chief Minister “has not serious criminal” case registered against her, the report reads.
Highlighting the skewed gender ratio in politics, only three (10 per cent) CMs are women among the total 31 analysed.
The report is based on analysis of chief ministers from 29 states and two Union Territories, done by Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and National Election Watch.
The study was based on the self-sworn affidavits of current chief ministers filed by them prior to contesting elections.
Similarly, former chief minister Omar Abdullah declared his assets Rs 65 lakh. In his affidavit before the 2014 assembly elections, Omar declared that he has Rs 65. 69 lakh assets and doesn’t own any immoveable property or a house.
Omar assets include Rs 1.10 lakh in cash, bank balance and deposits worth Rs 46. 59 lakh, gypsy and motorcycle valued Rs 3 lakh and jewellery worth Rs 15 lakh.
He was chief minister of JK between January 2009 and December 2014. Omar is presently the Working President of the opposition National Conference.
