Maraz Adbi Sangam organises annual conference at Bijbehara

BIJBEHARA, OCTOBER 24: Maraz Adbi Sangam a vibrant literary organization of south kashmir hosted its annual literary conference at Degree College Bijbehara, bringing together distinguished scholars, writers, and poets to celebrate Kashmiri literature and culture. The conference recognized significant contributions to the literary field while discussing the current challenges faced by the Kashmiri language.

The event began with a welcome address by Dr. Mohammad Shafi Ayaz, Vice President of Maraz Adbi Sangam, emphasizing the importance of promoting Kashmiri language and literature. The keynote speech was delivered by renowned literary figure Yousuf Jahangir, who reflected on the transformative power of literature in modern times.

One of the key highlights of the event was the presentation of the Sharaf-e-Maraz Award to Dr. Sohan Laal Kol for his outstanding contribution to Kashmiri literature. Shan E Maraaz Award to  prof. Shafi shouq for his literary contribution. Riyaz Anzoo conducted the first session of the conference, which was presided over by Dr. Shad Ramzaan, Convenor of the Kashmiri Language Advisory Board, Sahitya Academy. The Sham-e-Maraz Award for literary excellence was awarded to Shabir Hussain Shabir for his book Waad-e-Chenab: Tehzeeb o Saqafat and to Nasir Munawar for Siyah Shaban Manz. Prominent literary figures such as Gh. Nabi Atash, Mohammad Amin Bhat, Dr. Yasmeen Bashir, and Professor Farooq Fayaz also graced the presidium.

The first session witnessed the release of the annual literary magazine Wethe Aagur and the college’s annual publication Chinar. Additionally, three significant literary works were unveiled: Azam Farooq’s Pye Chu Zulmaat Wuzaan, Yousuf Jahangir’s translation of Shakespeare’s 51 sonnets in Kashmiri titled Khawaab Shabaab, and Chinar magazine. In the second session, a thought-provoking debate was held on the topic “The Current Pedagogical System of the Kashmiri Language and Modern Challenges.” Panelists included Professor Shoq, Dr. Farooq Fayaz, and Ayaz Nazki, with the debate moderated by renowned broadcaster Shamshad Kralwari.

The conference concluded with a vibrant poetry symposium featuring contributions from both young and senior poets. The event ended with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Ali Shaida, a prominent poet and the President of Maraz Adbi Sangam, who expressed gratitude to all participants and contributors. Maraz Adbi Sangam continues to foster Kashmiri language and literature, nurturing both established and emerging voices in the literary community.
