Srinagar, Oct 17: At least 25 persons who were arrested last week while they were on way to Takipora Lolab to express solidarity with the family of scholar turned militant Mannan Wani were released by police.
Sources said that seven among them, booked under a case FIR number 80/2018 under sections 147,148, 149, 336, 352 and 13 Unlawful Activities Act, were released on the bail.
The release comes a day after a civil society group in this north Kashmir district urged the government to release all the boys detained during the funeral of Hizb commander Mannan Bashir Wani or were detained while they were heading home of the slain commander to express solidarity with the bereaved family.
Reports reaching Global News Service said that a delegation of senior members of the civil society Tikkipora called upon SHO Sogam and demanded the release of all the youth including those from south Kashmir, who were arrested either during Mannan Wani’s funeral or on their way to Tikipora last week.
Besides seven who were arrested in connection with the FIR, over twenty more boys remained in police custody.
“We told the SHO that fuel is being added to the fire by making arrests and keeping innocent youth behind the bars. We told him if the situation remained peaceful, why police arrested,” a senior citizen, who was part of the delegation, said.
