Udhampur: A man hammered his father to death at Ramnagar in the Udhampur district on Tuesday.
Identified as Gopi Chand, he was grievously injured after he was hit by his son. He was shifted to district hospital Udhampur. Doctors however declared him dead on arrival.
“It was a case of assault after which cognizance of the matter was taken in police station Ramnagar and investigation was started,” officials said.
They added his son Joginder Kumar was the main suspect in the incident. He has been arrested.
“He confessed to the crime. Later he was formally arrested and the weapon of offense, which is a hammer, has been recovered,” said officials.
They added that some verbal duel that took place between the father-son duo last evening was the reason for the incident. “In a fit of anger, he attacked his father with a hammer while he was sleeping,” officials said.
