Srinagar, Nov 6: A nine-year-old New Zealand-born Kashmiri student has become an overnight sensation for her exquisite paintings and drawings.
Ayeesha Aamir Shah is making waves in the art world. A fourth-standard student at Delhi Public School Srinagar, she was born in New Zealand but returned to Kashmir with her parents when she was just three. Inspired by her parent’s artistic talents, she developed a passion for painting.
“I used to see my parents painting, which inspired me and made me interested in art,” said Ayeesha.
Her artistic journey began at just a year and a half old, creating heartfelt pieces that reflect her emotions. Her first artwork, a family portrait, captured her parent’s hearts. “It was so cute to see her in the middle with us on each side. It brought us to tears,” said Shaleen, her mother.
Ayeesha’s favorite subjects to paint include stunning sunsets and abstract pieces. “I feel very calm while painting. I learned it by myself,” she said.
With dreams of becoming a professional artist, Ayeesha envisions future projects centered on abstract art. “I would love to work on abstracts as my future projects,” she said.
Her parents have always been supportive of her artistic pursuits, ensuring she has the necessary materials. “We saw her keen interest in painting and made sure she had everything she needed like colors, brushes, canvases, etc. Every time we see her progress, it encourages us to support her even more,” said her mother.
With no formal training, Ayeesha’s parents are planning to enroll her in art school. They encourage her to experiment with various mediums, whether acrylics, oils, or other materials. “Her father even buys her paintings at times so she feels valued and appreciated,” her mother said.
Over the past two years, Ayeesha’s skills have improved significantly. “Without us saying anything, she becomes completely absorbed in her art,” her mother said.
Ayeeshaa’s paintings often reflect her fascination with nature and cultures, particularly influences from Asian art. “She paints a lot about space, the universe, and thoughts that go beyond everyday life,” her mother said.
When faced with challenges in her artwork, Ayeesha shows remarkable resilience. “Even if she makes mistakes, she keeps at it until she gets it right. She has a habit of never giving up,” her mother remarked, showcasing Ayeesha’s determination.
“We want her to enjoy her passion and are committed to helping her pursue art professionally,” they said.
To other parents wishing to nurture their children’s artistic interests, Ayesha’s family offers simple yet powerful advice. “Let them explore their passions. Pay attention to what they enjoy, and support them. It will make their lives beautiful and full of excitement,” said her mother.
